    Frequently asked questions

Who must receive general occupational safety training?

All employees – prior to taking up work, in the event of changes in their scope of duties or new work equipment, and regularly thereafter (§ 12 ArbSchG). Temporary agency workers are trained by the hiring employer.

Does general training replace workplace-specific safety training?

No. It teaches the fundamentals. Hazards arising from the risk assessment of the specific workplace – such as forklifts, hazardous substances, or machinery – require their own safety training.

Is online safety training legally permissible?

Yes. Safety training may be conducted electronically if the content is workplace-related, comprehension is tested, and employees can ask questions of a competent person at any time (DGUV Regel 100-001 (rules of German statutory accident insurance), Abschnitt 2.3). Armstrong tests comprehension with knowledge questions and provides a question function.

How is the safety training documented?

Upon completion, each person receives a certificate with their name, date, topic, and the result of the knowledge test. Participation can be retrieved by the employer at any time in the participation matrix – this provides proof of documentation in accordance with § 4 Abs. 1 DGUV Vorschrift 1.

    About this course

This training course provides comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental principles and regulations of general occupational safety and health, based on the Occupational Safety and Health Act and DGUV Regulation 1. It highlights the objectives, principles, and protective measures in occupational safety and health and explains the legal framework, ranging from European directives to specific regulations. A key focus is on the role of the employers’ liability insurance associations, their responsibilities in prevention, rehabilitation, and compensation, as well as their function as providers of statutory workers’ compensation insurance. In addition, the responsibilities of employers, managers, and employees are presented in detail, including the importance of hazard assessments, safety training, and the hierarchy of protective measures. Practical approaches such as the PDCA cycle and the 5S method for the continuous improvement of workplace safety are introduced to identify and prevent hazards, thereby ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
